Logical thinking is conditioned, and can be taught, but the question is, does it necessarily jibe or match up with reality "out there?" Does it successfully penetrate reality of, say, what is distant, past or predictable?

Lateral thinking (also called "jumping tracks") is extremely useful as an ally of normal, logical, vertical thinking. Not too much, mind you, but at a reasonable level it has been the source of much inventiveness and discoveries in history.

i guess i always thought of myself as thinking "outside the box" although what is "outside the box"? just a general ??? you see :)

Sometimes ideas, like bulbs beneath the soil, respond to care from those walking around. One is, certainly I am, always surprised when the crocus blooms.
