153.42 HUR is the Dewey Decimal System ID number for the 26 copies of Think Better in the Toronto Public Library system. Of the 26 copies 4 are being borrowed, 4 are missing and the rest are presumably on the shelves. Thought you'd all like to know.

I just finished the book and I can't wait to see what the Productive Thinking Model will unearth from the mysterious corners of my soul. I'm using the model to help me create my business blog. I'll also use it to find a way to help Acumen Fund end poverty via creative business models (Venture Philanthropy). I'm very impressed with Think Better.

Think Better has been named one of the top business books by Reed Learning, a UK provider of training and development.

I am pleased to advise you all that Think Better, as posted in the Blog by Franca, is now available in Korean language. With the original design of Jim ridge on the cover, front and back as well as in and out, it turned out great(at least upto now, people say, when they see) in a hard cover edition. I am personally honored to have translated it myself, supported by some professional friends in Korea. It was not easy at all, but rewarding experience after all the hurdles. Now let's wait for the reprinting, which I hope to see soon.

Think Better is out in Chinese! They've used the gator motif extensively inside. It's very well done. Also Jim's illustrations are in, though a bit small. All in all, it's excellently produced. Click on the image to see a larger picture of the front cover.

This is a small group, but I'm, delighted it exists. I'm in Pretoria, waiting for a ride to the airport for my flights home. I've been presenting at two conferences here in South Africa — the South African Conference on Creativity in Education and the South African Creativity Conference (with more of a business focus).

While I was at the conferences I had no email access, so I've been going through piles of messages. One of them was from my editor at McGraw Hill, who tells me that the first Chinese edition of Think Better was released this week. Woohoo!

Here are excerpts from three new reviews:

HRPA’s Thought Leader, a Canadian professional publication, said in its September issue “... an actual how-to course of action for solving any problem, from engaging employees to finding new customers, and it’s filled with great examples (including how Polaroid made “if only we could make instant pictures” a reality)."

Modern Casting in its September issue said, “... if you suspect your core competence conceals a potentially fatal knowledge gap, or if the last time you went with your gut on a decision earned you nothing but heartburn, Think Better should be at the top of your reading list.”

Eric D. Brown in Aligning Strategies said, “full of great information… kudos go to the author for writing in a style that is engaging and easy to read. If you are the least bit interested in the topic of creative/critical thinking, go buy this book."

Tim just got a great review in the September 2008 issue of Modern Casting magazine (metalworking, not movies!) In it Bill Libby writes:

"For those metalcasters struggling to help their company overcome seemingly insurmountable problems, there may well be no better book than Think Better....The genius of Hurson's techniques is the exhaustive manner in which he teaches you how to focus on each step. His guidance demonstrates how to make the right kind of lists, ask the right kinds of questions and choose the right kind of answers."

Congratulations Tim on the most recent successes with THINK BETTER and its growing list of translations.

    Light bulbs....1867...2008

perhaps it is time to become more contemporary or modern with visual metaphors for ideas

    especially with the GREEN Movement.

What other images, symbols, visual analogies can represent ahas, instant ideas, or simply ideas in 2008 and into the 21st century.

Recently for a logo I was exploring the use of the mini-fluorescent bulb in place of the inefficient and more costly classic incandescent lamp.

    What else might be used?

Might it not be a potentially dated invention?
