About Me:
In 1976 my son's principal asked: "Mr. Black, I have some students, a room & a little money.

Do you have any time?"

She asked me to become a volunteer gifted education teacher. For the next two years I did.

Then I met Bob Eberle who told me to go to CPSI in Buffalo. In 1978 I finally did and did most of the next 30 years.

My life has never been the same since.

Those Tuesdays with 22 highly academic students led me on a journey that has lasted 32 years (working on 4 degrees in education, completing 2).

24 of those years I have spent working as a creative thinking consultant/speaker/trainer.

So far that journey has taken me around the US & the world (8 times) meeting people focused on creativity, plus speaking at and attending many different creativity conferences, institutes, workshops and retreats meeting up with a growing number of creativity colleagues and friends.

I have been telling stories since I was a little boy: through my drawings, my cartoons, my drawings and sketches as an architect, interior, graphics/signage or industrial designer, and as a daily television news writer & weekend editor, plus through my body & movement presentations on stage creating "Silent Stories", also as part of three different amateur improvisational acting troupes plus the past 25 years as a professional speaker, trainer, workshop facilitator.

Since 1998 I has been living my life like the title of one of my books: LIFE IS A CREATIVE JOURNEY, NOT A GUIDED TOUR as I wander around the globe trying to help organizations develop Cre8ng Communities throughout their workplaces.

Expanding your Creativity in 2009

How are you expanding your creativity in 2009?

This past weekend I reviewed my copy of Alex Osborn's book YOUR CREATIVE POWER: 101 Ways to become more creative.

My plan this year is to review one book a week from my library and new ones I find.

What are some of the creative thinking books you have read recently?

Creativity in Sports Arenas

Through internet wandering on Twitter I just found and watched an excellent interview with Dan Mies, FAIA, sports facility architect.

The first few minutes set the stage and it improves more and more as you watch it.

He discusses his principles of design, how stadiums have changed, how stadium designs depend upon the city, the sport, the fans, the times.

Treat yourself to an interview with a highly creative person.

Thanks! At the moment I'm a long-term sub, and am teaching physical geography. I wonder how to work problem-solving into this subject...

I've looked into some of your suggestions, and really look forward to exploring the link you sent me.

Hi Alan,

Thanks! I know of Bloom's, but not about the other resources you mentioned. I'm especially curious to check out Future Problem Solving resources :)

hi Alan, it is great to hear from you! first of all i got married in Italy at the end of september to a wonderful man. Life is good!

I have also been having a ball teaching a four month course since last year titled "Capturing Your Creativity" at Working With Artists. I am using the course to explore new ideas in teaching creativity. i am combining alot of diverse material and having wonderful results.

i also am presenting at the ACA conference in March. One of the sessions is on reading the visual culture 101 and the other one is on calling the Muse. both presentations are visual intensive, Last year I presented similar material at CPSI with Michael Jones, and Anthony Hyatt in the session "Leading Artfully. i am adding to that material by using some of the discoveries in neuroscience about imagination and perception to stimulate the ahaa centers of the brain. looking for the creative leap. I am working out all of the details in my creativity courses.

what have you been up to? it will be great to catch up.
Cheers! Teri
