Clearly, target driven education doesn't work. Central government must refocus on people and not key performance indicators which miss what matters.

Rid us software thinking by which we have been sold an ICT Project Management falsity. But linked data. Wow.

Things we don't understand : I have had a dream

Whatever our belief systems there will always be things we can never understand.
I'm comfortable with that fact.
Following Darwinian and Einsteinian thinking, we can deal with things like evolution and relativity.
What else is there to discover?
I guess, to find out what there is in this world to discover, you just have to stay in the box and have a really good think.....about what you do know and what you don't know.
You would probably then be best advised to check out what it is that you thContinue

Failing to think better

Why is it that I know how to do things better but I often revert to form and do the simplest, quick fix thing?
I get away with it but I could do better.

Am I lazy or is it that, as a youngster, I just wasn't taught right? In Higher Education, requiring research etc, I learnt how to think better and differently. But it was a hard slog. As soon as I could, I went back to the easy life, surviving and doing stuff that didn't need a great deal of effort or mental fortitude.

Cripes - if I can't get… Continue

Refining the thinking

Strapped for time, I have often written stuff and posted it, just to get my thinking of the moment 'out there', noted for future contemplation.
My scrawlings can always do with an edit. An edit extracts more of the essence of my thinking (and makes the post easier for others to come to grips with, better identifying what the hell I was going on about).
Such is the case with my post 'Lack-of-New-Creative-Ways-of-Educating' (about 'Bridging' and via http://www.ideaconnection.com/solutions/7538-Lac… Continue

Hi again,

I'd like to learn more about energizers! They sound neat, but I don't think I get a full grasp of what they are like yet. Could they be worked into the problem-solving structure?

Ultimately publication would be great, however I know that I want to build solidity and success first... find out what works with kids and what they respond to/engage with... how it helps their literacy development... and research what is effective. You?

Doing the presentation tomo. From what I am hearing from the others here in cnference as well as some of the conversations, the training aspect is not going upslope as yet. Most companies as we can guess are wither downsizing or rightsizing their resources. That said, I thought you may wana tap into your network and perhaps steer away from the generic types of training and consultancy. Leverage on the current needs and use your "newness" to your advantage to lend fresh perspectives to their current needs as I described above. To reframe the situation, your strength is the enthusiam to inject novelty and less restrained by past tensionds. Idea 2-Perhaps tapping into Ning might be good way to look for pp keen on outsourcing projects or seek collaborations. Offer yourself as a way to partner, co-design or provide various levels of front end networking. I thought your network may be a good way to make some connections. Sorry though that I may not be best of hepl as my field is primarily still in education but woud definitely keep a keen eye for opportunities for you. I know folks on 'LinkedIn' often extends their services by openly "selling" their availabilty. Hope this i useful

So good to hear from you. Its beeeeeeeen such a looooooooooooooong while. Still recall that it was about this time of the year that we "met" through Ning last June. Time flies. Thanks for linking me back to Ning. Fact is, its a busy month of training and will be making a couple of presentations in conferences. One of which I am looking forward is the International COnference on Thinking where Howard Gardner and Edward de BOno will be presenting keynotes. How about you my friend? Even as I am settling back into my comfort zone... am kind of yearning to stretch myself into some new areas.... ha3... you?

Thanks Mark -
Don't have much time to respond now but your project sounds fascinating, and I think it's bang on the mark. I've found myself over the past few years trying to deliver more definitive programmes, still about unleashing creativity but with a lot more focus, and as you say, results driven. It's not an easy task, and no, I haven't won yet! It's a frustrating process.
If you can design a tool or aid that can lead to better design process it'll be amazing. I look around at what architects (for example) are doing with public buildings and want to scream. As someone who had only 2 years of architectural study back in the late 70's, I sometimes feel I could do a better job. A proposed nursing home beside us for example in a listed building, you wouldn't believe the shambles of a floor plan. As I think about designing something similar, I'm down there walking the floor in my mind's eye/body, interacting with the residents, feeling what it is to walk the distance from the dining room to the nurses station on my walking frame etc... Maybe that's whats wrong, so many designers seem to see things in a 2 dimensional way instead of being able to visualize the end effect and feeling of what they're designing?
Anyway - I'm starting to ramble! Hope you have a great trip too and that we'll talk soon!

I have no idea what their real goal is. I just looked at their website from their Twitter profile. No that "green" is a buzzword, there are lots of groups that are going to promote anything that is related to going green. Schools are no exception. I just wonder about their knowledge of govt. contracting, the current fiscal crisis etc.

I simply follow them on Twitter and will be curious to see how their ideas will be played out in Orange County where I live.
