Hi Alan, Since doing the workshop; "Don't Debate... Facilitate", I have become very aware of the socio-psych 'wet blanket' we have in many aspects of our culture because we do not realize that the standard mode of interaction is based on debate co...

Hi Sue, I'm not sure if this will help, but the story is worth telling in any case. There was a myth that went around Buffalo State College that when Sid Parnes first had a freshman class in Creative Problem Solving, and had to have a 'final exami...

Kevin and Tim, I am not surprised at the results Kevin saw. In many, many session of a course I did called Developing Effective Teams I had a ton of anecdotal evidence of how a team can be thrown off-balance by little things like a non-member sitt...

I recently posted a New York Times article on Recess in the Creativity in Education Forum at the end of which was a reference to Dr. Stuart Brown, the author of the new book “Play: How It Shapes the Brain, Opens the Imagination and Invigorates the...

Hi all, I would appreciate the application of any HUBbite’s expertise on the following use of play as a creative catalyst. I recall that quite a few years ago I heard or read about this, but I don’t recall where. Questions are, 1) Did this really...

Hi John! Just wanted to connect with you and see how you are doing, and what's new? And most importantly, what have you cooked lately?

I've been experimenting with different meats, sometimes rather favorably, other times not so much... haha

*smile* My apologies!
A pm is a private message, and you can check it by clicking on 'Inbox' located at the top right of this page (in a box just under the pink 'Hub' header). This will open a new section on top of the header, to display your message box and messages.

I had sent you a pm reply to the first post before i figured out how to actually use the thread option. So we're all learning together! :)

Hi John
Mostly this is just another social call..hoping all is well with you.

But whilst I'm here, as an ex teacher, could you offer any incite - just a couple of lines or so - as to what the educational system you worked in was like? And could you point me to any fellow Hubbite who is currently at the educational coalface and actually teaching or lecturing (any age group, any subject)..I'm just trying to understand the educational cultures and obstacles faced in other countries.

Hope the cooking goes well. My wife lectures in a Hotel School so helpful hints are on offer. On campus also there's a Business School.

All the best

I'd like to do more CoRT stuff with our local Lakeshore Academy of Fine Arts. I met the director of La-Fa (as it is known around here) and she is very interested in creativity. My focus now is to do very local creativity. Our new town of Lakeshore is growing fast (we are east of Windsor) an are in a transition from rural to ? in terms of structure. I've become involved with local agencies (community services) and with the towns strategic planning, and I'm enjoying becoming part of the growth and development process. Hopefully we'll connect at Mind Camp.

Enjoy the holidays, wear your sun glasses and I look forward to more posts from both of you as time, and your vision, permits.
Cheers

No problems and good luck with it all. I won't bore you with my optical occurrences - we don't want to relive the damned experiences do we? And we’ve had enough flashbacks.

The only silver lining to the cloud for me is that, though PC work is a bit tedious, the time off work has allowed me to get to know the Thinkx community and, hopefully, either come alongside or come to terms with what lies beneath.

I’m, happily, off to Sardinia for two weeks then back to the day job. But I aim to squeeze out the time to stay in touch – just not in such detail. I love having thinking time. Perhaps the time has come for me to consider a change of job and hang the security.

Regarding education, my wife Barbara will hopefully be involved as the expert. I’m working on her (about Thinkx and the Hub that is) and she is now member 100. She is also hellishly busy and my well-being, or the lack of it, means she is in desperate need of respite.

At least no gas bubble now and I can fly without the fear of … well you know.

All the best

Hi John,
Thanks for the 'family' update 'outside' The Hub, sorry to hear about the eyes, hope things are ok now. I will update you with 'goings on' this end when I've done my tax return form! But what's happened to the moustache?
All the best,
Mick

About Me:
I am attempting to cook rather than work, walk rather than run, smile more and play games. I did teach for years in a Business faculty and I'm fairly sure most of what I imparted is now wrong. I consulted on corporate training programs for years, as well, and I found the participants preferred the 'guide by the side' not the 'sage on the stage'. So I facilitate, when I'm not cooking, walking or playing games.

CIM conference... greaaaat

Hey All, I attended the Creativity and Innovation Management conference held Thurs and Fri at Buff State. Puccio was the host, Tudor Rickards the special guest and the CIM journal and it's publisher the other host/organizers. It was for the 'community' of those involved with the journal and it was billed as a balanced attempt to bring together theory and practice. See www.buffalostate.edu/creativity/x741.xml for the schedule. There were 150+ people there and lots of really great presentations.
